The First Lady of Nigeria, Oluremi Tinubu, has addressed critics who expect her husband, President Bola Tinubu, to immediately solve the country’s numerous problems. Speaking at an inter-denominational church service held to commemorate Independence Day at the National Christian Centre in Abuja, Mrs. Tinubu made it clear that her husband is not a magician, but rather working systematically to address the issues at hand.
Mrs. Tinubu also emphasized that President Tinubu will not place blame on previous administrations for the challenges facing the country. “All we inherited are things that had happened many years ago; we are not here to put blame on any administration but to fix what has been damaged,” she stated. She called on Nigerians to have faith in her husband’s ability to bring peace and progress to the country, saying, “My husband is not a magician; he is going to work and I believe and hope that we will have peace in this country; the best is yet to come to us.”
In her address, Mrs. Tinubu stressed the importance of good governance and encouraged Nigerians to follow the example set by Jesus Christ. “Good governance can only be impactful if the people follow the example of Jesus Christ, our Lord, who embodied the fruit of the spirit, including love, joy, peace, long-suffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance, and forgiveness,” she said.
Furthermore, she called for unity amidst the nation’s diversity. “There is no challenge, obstacle, or difficulty that we cannot overcome or surmount if we imbibe the nature of Christ who said in Matthew 11:28 that ‘come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest’,” she urged. Mrs. Tinubu also assured Nigerians that President Tinubu had engaged in consultations with the international community and investors to reposition the country.
The guest preacher at the church service, President of the Nigerian Baptist Convention Israel Akanji, appealed to President Tinubu and all political leaders to address the nation’s challenges promptly. He emphasized that Nigerians are tired of empty promises and are seeking actionable solutions.
