Members of the Islamic State West African Province (ISWAP) have successfully taken down a prominent Boko Haram commander, Ali Gana Alhaji Ali, who was in charge of the Sambisa and Gwoza enclaves. The fatal incident occurred on Gwoza Hill, located in the Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State.

According to reliable reports, Ali, known for his ruthless tactics, fell victim to an ambush staged by ISWAP fighters on Sunday.

A highly placed security source informed Daily Trust that prior to his demise, Ali had been responsible for numerous casualties in Sambisa and other parts of Borno State.

“He served as the deputy to the late Ali Ngulde, and besides Shekau, no one else was as notorious as him for taking lives in the Sambisa forest and Bayan Dutsen Gwoza,” the source revealed.

“He was a brutal murderer. His foot soldiers in the Gwoza region constantly struck terror into the hearts of communities, farmers, and commuters along the Pulka, Bankin, Bama, and Gwoza Mubi routes.

“They showed no mercy, and every week, innocent people were mercilessly slaughtered on their farms. Undoubtedly, the people of Gwoza will rejoice at his demise,” the source added.

It should be noted that in May 2021, Abubakar Shekau, a feared leader of Boko Haram, also met his end during a deadly confrontation with ISWAP fighters.
