The Deputy Speaker of Nigeria’s House of Representatives, Benjamin Okezie Kalu, has expressed his full support for the Southeast governors’ efforts in addressing the issue of insecurity in the region.
In a statement released by his Chief Press Secretary (CPS), Mr. Levinus Nwabughiogu, Kalu affirmed his commitment during a visit to Owerri, Imo State on Sunday. He accompanied Governor Senator Hope Uzodinma to a thanksgiving service at the Catholic Church Assumpta Cathedral, in honor of Nigeria’s 63rd Independence Day anniversary.
During the service, Governor Uzodinma emphasized the need for forgiveness and reconciliation among the people, assuring them that the state will soon overcome its security challenges.

In his remarks following the service, Kalu commended Governor Uzodinma, who is also the Chairman of the South East Governors’ Forum and the All Progressives Governors’ Forum, for his exemplary leadership in the state.
Highlighting the significance of unity and patience amongst the people, the Deputy Speaker emphasized that his visit to Owerri was aimed at collaborating with the governor to enhance measures in effectively addressing the increasing security challenges in the South East. He noted that this issue has been a major concern for leaders in the region, particularly within the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Kalu pledged his support for Governor Uzodinma’s reelection, emphasizing that due to the governor’s people-oriented projects and commendable programs visible throughout the state, his second term is guaranteed.
Later, the Deputy Speaker joined Governor Uzodinma at Ndubuisi Kanu (Heroes) Square in Owerri for the Independence Day Parade. He also participated in the ceremonial cutting of the Independence Day cake and the release of pigeons, symbolizing unity and peace in the Southeast region.
