Ministerial nominees: Despite collapsing during screening, Senate confirms Balarabe, 2 others

The Senate on Wednesday confirmed Balarabe Abbas Lawal (Kaduna), Dr Jamila Bio Ibrahim (Kwara) and Ayodele Olawande (Ondo) as members of President Bola Tinubu’s cupboard.

The majority of the Senators, by way of a voice vote, supported the affirmation of the three nominees instantly after their screening train.

Media Talk Africa earlier reported that there was pandemonium on the Senate flooring on Wednesday when Balarabe from Kaduna collapsed during his screening.

Balarabe, who was nominated because the substitute for the previous Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-rufai, collapsed about quarter-hour into his screening train.

It was, nevertheless, gathered that the newly confirmed minister has stabilised.

Media Talk Africa recollects that the Senate had, on August 7, confirmed 45 of the 48 ministerial nominees within the first and second batches.

The lawmakers had been unable to substantiate El-Rufai, Stella Okotete (Delta State), and Abubakar Danladi (Taraba State), who had been earlier nominated by the President.
