Ogun warns companies violating building regulations

Ogun State Government has warned owners of companies not to violate the laid down rules and regulations, otherwise they would have their businesses sealed off.

The government also threatened to prosecute any individual, company, or community aiding illegalities through breaking government seals or going against government notices.

This was disclosed by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development, Olayiwola Abiodun, during an inspection of some business facilities earlier sealed by the Ogun State Building Production Management Authority (OGBPMA) in Mowe along the Lagos-Ibadan highway.

Abiodun stated that the low level of compliance to Stop-Work orders and seal notices showed willful disobedience to government rules and regulations.

The Permanent Secretary said the tour to Mowe was to measure the level of compliance with the enforcement activities of OGBPMA and to inform Ogun business owners and residents of the need to obtain permits before embarking on any construction.

He said the tour was also to tell those who had contravened building laws to seek regularisation at the appropriate quarters.

He urged anyone served a notice by any of the government authorities to approach the Ministry with the documents they have, saying they would be shown the proper processes to regularise their documents.

“We are not out to witch-hunt anyone or disturb your investments, but everything must be done in accordance with the law, towards achieving a safe and well-planned physical environment,” Abiodun stated.
