The European Commission Suspends Development Payments for Palestinians Following Hamas Attack on Israel

The European Commission has announced the suspension of all development payments for Palestinians in response to the recent Hamas attack on Israel. European Commissioner Olivér Várhelyi shared this information on X, formerly known as Twitter.

Várhelyi stated that aid projects worth 691 million euros (728.6 million dollars) are currently under review. He emphasized that the scale of terror and brutality perpetrated against Israel and its people is a turning point, leading to a break in business as usual.

“The foundations for peace, tolerance, and co-existence must now be addressed. Incitement to hatred, violence, and the glorification of terror have poisoned the minds of too many,” Várhelyi expressed.

Previously, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen highlighted that the EU and its member states were the largest donors to the Palestinian population.

A statement revealed that the bloc intends to provide 1.18 billion Euros in support to the Palestinian people for the period of 2021 to 2024.

The issue will be discussed at an extraordinary meeting of EU foreign ministers scheduled for Tuesday.
