Wife of President Urges Prioritization of Mental Health

In commemoration of World Mental Health Day on October 10, the wife of Nigeria’s President, Oluremi Tinubu, has called on citizens to place a greater emphasis on their mental well-being.

Mrs. Tinubu conveyed her message in light of this year’s theme, “Mental health is a universal human right.”

She stated, “As we mark World Mental Health Day, I implore each and every one of us to pay more attention to our mental well-being, as well as that of others.”

The First Lady acknowledged Nigeria’s reputation for resilience on the global stage and urged citizens not to let current challenges negatively impact their mental health.

“Our generation faces numerous challenges, including the pressures of social media and societal expectations. These have burdened many individuals emotionally and psychologically, greatly affecting their mental well-being. It is crucial that we acknowledge the importance of mental health and take collective action to support those who are impacted,” she emphasized.

Mrs. Tinubu also called for government engagement with the youth to safeguard their mental health and protect them from activities that could be detrimental.

“As we strive towards a more promising nation, let us prioritize having open and honest conversations with our youth. This will enhance their mental well-being, teach them how to manage their emotions and expectations effectively, foster healthy relationships, and ultimately increase their productivity.”

“Let us promote a culture of understanding and empathy, dismantling the taboos surrounding mental health issues. Each and every one of us has a role to play in combatting this global challenge. I call upon our traditional rulers, religious leaders, NGOs, and all well-meaning Nigerians to join the government in showing concern and providing support to those in need. Together, we can create a society where mental wellness is a priority, and every individual feels valued and contributes to our collective growth.”

In conclusion, the wife of the President emphasized the importance of collective efforts in building a healthier and more compassionate nation for all.
