Former President Muhammadu Buhari graced the occasion as he attended the graduation and passing out ceremony of 1,456 members of the Katsina Community Watch Corps, Batch 1. The event, which took place on Tuesday, also saw the commissioning of 40 new buses allocated for the transportation of students and teachers to schools across the state.

This initiative was spearheaded by Katsina State Governor Dikko Umaru Radda, who commenced recruitment efforts on May 29, 2023. The aim was to address the escalating concerns of terrorism and criminal activities within the state. A total of 2,400 youths were enlisted into the Community Watch Corps with the goal of bolstering security measures.

The newly trained graduates will work in partnership with traditional security forces to combat banditry and various other forms of criminality that have plagued the state. Their primary focus will be on enhancing security in local governments on the frontline and confronting terrorists in their hideouts to put an end to their menace throughout Katsina.

Prior to the graduation ceremony, Governor Radda’s administration dedicated N560 million towards the procurement of security equipment for the corps. This investment in state-of-the-art resources demonstrates a commitment to effectively combatting the prevailing security challenges.

The event was graced by governors and representatives from six Northwest states, namely Kebbi, Sokoto, Jigawa, Zamfara, Kaduna, and Kano. Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State also attended as a special guest of honor. The presence of these distinguished individuals underlines the significance and importance of this graduation ceremony.

President Buhari, serving as the chairman of the occasion, demonstrated his unwavering support for this crucial security initiative. His presence further exemplifies the national commitment to upholding peace and security across Nigeria.
