A media leadership excellence award has been established to pay tribute to Professor Ishaq Oloyede, the Registrar of the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB). This prestigious award, which comes with a cash prize of N300,000, will be presented annually to a distinguished media professional in Nigeria who embodies outstanding leadership qualities within the industry.
The announcement of this media award took place during the 7th Guild of Corporate Online Publishers (GOCOP) event, and was made by Dr. MS Abubakar, the Special Adviser and Acting Director of Research and Documentation at the Buratai Leadership Center.
Dr. Abubakar stated, “This media leadership award is a testament to the remarkable leadership qualities demonstrated by Professor Ishaq Oloyede throughout his academic and administrative career. He consistently exemplifies that public service is an opportunity to serve diligently and with utmost integrity.”
Dr. Abubakar further called upon fellow Nigerians to join in honoring trustworthy public servants who have made significant contributions to the country.
In his role as the Chairman of the 7th GOCOP event, Professor Ishaq Oloyede expressed his appreciation for the diligent reporting and advocacy of online publishers. He also emphasized the need for a fair reward system for public servants, in order to combat corruption and improve the living standards of civil servants. Professor Oloyede highlighted that the current salaries of workers are insufficient to support a decent standard of living.
During the conference, which focused on the theme “Nigeria: Roadmap for Socio-Economic Recovery and Sustainability,” Professor Uche Nwaleke delivered a keynote address advocating for economic recovery based on non-oil sectors.
The panelists, including Hadiza Usman, Johnson Chukwu, and Professor Yakubu Ochefu, Secretary General Committee of Vice Chancellors of Nigerian University, emphasized the necessity of a new economic framework that addresses the needs and aspirations of Nigerians.
This media award serves as a testament to the exemplary leadership and integrity demonstrated by Professor Ishaq Oloyede throughout his career. It is a symbol of recognition for individuals who strive for excellence in the media industry, and a step towards uplifting the standards of leadership within the field.
