The Cross River State government has unveiled a comprehensive strategy to reduce carbon emissions and mitigate flooding, particularly in areas susceptible to natural disasters within the state. As part of these efforts, the government has implemented sensitization programs and interventions.

Moses Osogi, the Commissioner for Environment and Ecological Management, revealed these plans during a meeting with the Minister of Environment in Abuja. Osogi emphasized the implementation of strict penalties to deter carbon emissions and highlighted the availability of sustainable alternatives for the people.

Osogi further stated that, in response to the constant climate changes, the state government has initiated educational campaigns and sensitization programs to safeguard the livelihoods of Nigerians. These initiatives aim to raise awareness about the consequences of climate change and promote measures to mitigate and prevent adverse shifts in climate patterns, benefiting humans, plants, and animals alike.

Furthermore, Commissioner Osogi appealed to the federal government to establish Waste to Wealth Infrastructure in order to promote environmental sustainability and create business opportunities through a circular economy. To support this vision, Cross River State intends to acquire a waste recycling plant, segregation and collection centers, as well as training and support facilities.

In response, the Minister assured Osogi of his commitment to collaborating closely with the Cross River government to maximize results in environmental protection. He expressed appreciation to the Commissioner for being the first State Commissioner to visit him since assuming office.
