Plateau organ harvesting suspect, Noah Kekere, gets bail

A Plateau State magistrate’s court sitting at Jos Metropolitan Development Board has granted bail to Noah Kekere, a quack doctor accused of organ harvesting in the state.

DAILY NIGERIAN reports that Mr Kekere had been in custody since his arrest by the police in September.

Our correspondent gathered that at the expiration of the remand request, lawyers approached the court, seeking an administrative bail.

It was also gathered that the state ministry of justice was yet to file charges against the suspect.

Although Mr Kekere’s case was not listed on the case list for Tuesday’s court sessions, the presiding judge, Chief Magistrate D. Chollom, however heard the bail application and granted him a bail.

The conditions for the bail included two sureties one of whom must present a Certificate of Occupancy, and another who must be a traditional ruler in the state.

The suspect has since fulfilled the conditions.

DAILY NIGERIAN reports that the development triggered disquiet in the Nassarawa Gwong community of Jos North Local Government Area.

A community leader, Jamilu Baba, in an interview with DAILY NIGERIAN, wondered how the suspect was brought to the court when the case was not listed in the case list.

“There was also no police prosecutor at the court and the lawyers of the accused only presented a motion without even charges and the judge granted the bail,” he said.

The community leader added that they would pursue justice from all relevant authorities in the country.

When contacted, the state police spokesman, DSP Alfred Alabo, said the prosecution file had been taken out of their hands.

“The case has been transferred to the Plateau State Ministry of Justice. They are prosecuting the case. I told you that they are the ones prosecuting the case,” he responded.
