In a statement delivered at the flag-off of the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship campaign in Imo state, President Bola Tinubu emphasized the importance of the South East geopolitical zone for the growth and development of Nigeria. Represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima, Tinubu called for unity and collaboration in driving the progress of the country.
Election Update
The governorship election in Imo state, along with other off-season polls in Bayelsa and Kogi states, is scheduled to take place on November 11, 2023. This election presents an opportunity for the people of Imo to voice their support for the candidate who will best serve their interests.
Recognizing Infrastructural Developments in Imo
Tinubu commended the ongoing infrastructural developments carried out by Governor Hope Uzodimma in Imo state. He acknowledged the remarkable increase in the state’s Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) from N3 billion to N30 billion per annum, as well as the construction of state-of-the-art roads and other developmental projects.
Call for Support and Re-election
Addressing the people of Imo, Tinubu urged them to rally around Governor Uzodimma and ensure his re-election for a second term of four years. He emphasized the President’s unwavering support for Uzodimma and the importance of continuity and consolidation in achieving their shared objectives for the state.
“I have seen your faces of hope, resilience, and determination, and I believe that together, we can’t afford to be complacent on November 11. Let us unite and re-elect Governor Uzodimma, as he has proven himself capable of delivering the progress and development that Imo state deserves,” stated Tinubu.
The President’s remarks highlighted the significance of the South East region in driving Nigeria’s growth and echoed the imperative for collaboration and support in fostering the development of the nation.
