Fifty-eight legal professionals have been elevated to the prestigious rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) by the Legal Practitioners Privileges Committee (LPPC).
The LPPC, headed by Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN) Justice Olukayode Ariwoola, confirmed the appointments of these new SANs on Thursday after hours of deliberation. Among the newly appointed SANs are 57 legal practitioners and one academic.
A statement from the Chief Registrar of the Supreme Court and Secretary of the LPPC, Hajo Sarki-Bello, explained that the appointments were based on the elevated lawyers’ outstanding performance in the field of law and their dedication to upholding the professional code of ethics.
The statement also revealed that the committee reviewed four different petitions against some of the applicants and dismissed them for lacking merit.
The new Senior Advocates of Nigeria will be officially inaugurated by the CJN, Justice Olukayode Ariwoola, on Monday, November 27th at the Supreme Court complex.
