2023 AFCON: Super Eagles Primed for Qualification Alongside Hosts Cote d’Ivoire, Says Sunday Mba

Former Super Eagles midfielder, Sunday Mba, is confident that the Nigerian national team will secure qualification from their group in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, alongside hosts Cote d’Ivoire.

The draw ceremony, held in Abidjan on Thursday night, placed Jose Peseiro’s side in Group A, alongside the hosts, Equatorial Guinea, and Guinea-Bissau.

Mba, who famously scored the winning goal in the 2013 AFCON final against Burkina Faso, expressed his belief in the Super Eagles’ ability to progress from the group stage.

However, Mba cautioned against complacency and advised the team to approach each match with utmost seriousness.

“Nigeria will undoubtedly qualify from our group, but we must not underestimate any of our opponents, as they are all significantly more prepared now,” Mba stated during an interview with Brila FM.

“In fact, Nigeria is the team to beat in the 2023 AFCON, not just in terms of qualifying from Group A.

“With an impressive array of strikers and a well-balanced team, there is no team we should fear.”
