In a surprising turn of events, Muslim leaders in Ogbomoso, Oyo State, have made the decision to shut down the Ogbomoso Central Mosque located at Oka’gbo. The closure comes as a result of the ongoing controversy surrounding the selection of the Chief Imam of the town, Sheikh Teliat Yinus Oluwasina Ayilara.
Opponents of Ayilara’s appointment argue that he is not a native of the town, thus sparking tensions within the community. Fearing potential unrest, the Muslim leaders have taken this preventative action.
These influential figures include the Aare Musulumi of Ogbomosoland, Alhaji Abdulganiy Atanda Owodunni; the Asoju Musulumi, Alhaji Minkaheel Yussuf; the Balogun Musulumi, Alhaji Abdulrasaq Bello, and other notable leaders.
The primary objective behind the closure is to enforce Ayilara’s absence during today’s Jumat service and maintain public order. Consequently, leaders are urging Muslims in the community to attend nearby mosques for the Jumat service until a final resolution is reached.
