American actress and talk show host, Jada Pinkett Smith, recently revealed that the late rapper, Tupac Shakur, proposed to her while he was in jail. However, she made the difficult decision to decline his proposal.
A Soul Connection
Pinkett Smith explained that Tupac proposed to her during his time in jail due to the vulnerable condition he was in. While referring to the rapper as her “soulmate,” she emphasized that they were not compatible as a married couple.
A Painful Decision
In a recent episode of the Showtime Basketball podcast, Pinkett Smith shared her experience. She recalled visiting Tupac at Rikers Island and witnessing his deteriorating physical and emotional state. Despite feeling a deep connection with him, she felt that marrying him was not necessary to support and spend time with him.
Pinkett Smith said, “He asked me to marry him, but I knew he needed someone to be there for him during his time in jail. I was committed to being there for him regardless of marital status. Marrying him wouldn’t change that.”
Incompatible Paths
The Hollywood star expressed her belief that their marriage would not have lasted. Pinkett Smith firmly stated that if she and Tupac had gotten married, they would have ended up divorcing soon after.
The Smiths’ Separate Lives
It’s worth noting that Jada Pinkett Smith recently shared that she and her husband, Will Smith, have been living apart since 2016. Although not officially divorced, Pinkett Smith described their situation as a form of separation.
She stated, “Since 2016, we have been living apart. It may not be a divorce on paper, but it is a separation.”
