The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has taken proactive measures to ensure the safety and security of the residents of Abuja by setting up two joint security task forces.

During a press briefing on the outcome of the FCT Security Council meeting in Abuja on Friday, the Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, Haruna Garba, announced the establishment of these task forces.

One of the task forces focuses on addressing the menace of “one chance” activities and consists of all security agencies in the FCT. The other task force aims to curb armed robberies, kidnappings, and other forms of criminal activities in Abuja and its environs.

The primary objective of these joint task forces is to eliminate criminal elements from the FCT, prevent cross-border crimes, and put an end to the operations of “one chance” syndicates.

Highlighting the importance of safety and security, Commissioner Haruna Garba stated, “The FCT Security Council meeting, chaired by Minister Wike, convened this afternoon to discuss strategies for ensuring the safety and security of the FCT.”

He further revealed that several “one chance” operators have already been apprehended and will face prosecution once investigations are concluded.

Assuring the residents of Abuja, Garba emphasized the determination of the task forces to stamp out criminal activities within the FCT and surrounding areas.

“Rest assured, the task force will launch a crackdown on the activities of these ‘one chance’ elements,” Garba assured FCT residents.

He added, “Significant improvements will be observed in the coming days.”
