The Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Pastor Eno Bassey, has officially inaugurated Exercise Still Waters III at the 2 Brigade Step-Up Headquarters in Akwa Ibom State.
In a message delivered by the Deputy Governor, Senator (Dr) Akon Eyakenyi, the Governor expressed his appreciation to the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, for organizing the exercise.
The Governor acknowledged the critical role played by the 2 Brigade and other security agencies in maintaining peace and security in the state. Akwa Ibom State has gained a reputation as one of the most peaceful states in Nigeria.
Addressing the gathered officials, the Governor’s representative emphasized that the synergy between the Nigerian Army (NA) and other security agencies will effectively address threats posed by cultism, insurgency, kidnapping, and other security challenges.
The Commander of the 2 Brigade Nigerian Army, Brigadier General KE Chigbu, echoed the Governor’s sentiments, noting that the timing of the event is crucial given the current security challenges faced by the state and the nation as a whole.
In collaboration with other security agencies in Akwa Ibom State, the 2 Brigade will continue to work together to support the state government. Both kinetic and non-kinetic strategies will be employed to tackle the prevailing threats, in alignment with the COAS’s command philosophy.
The highlight of the event included crowd dispersal drills, aerial surveillance and support provided by the Nigerian Air Force, presentation of souvenirs, medical outreach, and a group photograph to commemorate the occasion.
