President Bola Tinubu has paid tribute to Baba Aladura Reuben Olorunfunmi Basorun, marking his 85th birthday. The Second Republic Secretary to the Lagos State Government is commended for his vast experience and accomplishments in various fields.
In a statement released by his spokesperson, Ajuri Ngelale, President Tinubu expressed gratitude to God for the remarkable life and achievements of the elder statesman. Basorun’s extensive career as a politician, retired banker, lawyer, unionist, priest, and Asiwaju of Igbogbo in the Ikorodu Division of Lagos State has earned him profound respect.
Tinubu highlighted Basorun’s unwavering commitment to progressive causes since his early days as a member of the First Republic Action Group. The President described Basorun as an inspiration to many, reviving interest in the timeless Awoist slogan of “Freedom for All and Life More Abundance.”
Recalling Basorun’s notable contributions as a key member of the late Alhaji Lateef Jakande’s administration, Tinubu praised his hard work, dedication, leadership experience, and passion for excellence.
Furthermore, Tinubu commended Basorun for successfully balancing the demands of political activism with community engagement and church activities at the Cherubim and Seraphim Church, Oke Ayo Igbala Irapada, Iganmu, Lagos, where he serves as the General Superintendent without compromising his duties.
“I join in celebrating the 85th birthday of Baba Aladura Olorunfunmi Basorun, a man whom God has blessed with a long life, robust health, and invaluable opportunities to serve Nigeria and humanity in the fields of banking, law, and politics,” said Tinubu.
