The Nigerian Air Force, NAF, has successfully carried out airstrikes in Borno and Zamfara states, leading to the elimination of numerous terrorists and the destruction of their assets. These operations were conducted by the Air Components of Operations Hadin Kai and Hadarin Daji, respectively.
Striking a Blow Against Terrorism
Air Commodore Edward Gabkwet, the Director of Public Relations and Information for NAF, confirmed the success of these airstrikes in a statement released on Sunday in Abuja. The air component executed air interdiction missions at a newly discovered hideout of the terrorists in Bukar Meram near the Lake Chad region in Borno.
The decision to carry out these strikes was driven by intelligence reports indicating that the relocation of terrorists from Suwa to Bukar Meram posed a significant threat to ground troops and innocent civilians. Consequently, authorized airstrikes were carried out in Bukar Meram, resulting in the neutralization of several terrorists and the destruction of 40 motorcycles and six gun trucks.
In a similar operation targeting terrorists in Zamfara, the Air Component of Operation Haradin Daji conducted airstrikes on October 11 in the Sangeko axis of Maru Local Government Area. During this operation, a convoy of approximately 70 motorcycles carrying terrorists was engaged, resulting in several casualties, the destruction of their motorcycles, and injuries to others.
Commendation from the Chief of the Air Staff
Air Commodore Gabkwet reported that Air Marshal Hassan Abubakar, the Chief of the Air Staff, commended the professionalism and dedication exhibited by the Air Components during these operations. He emphasized the importance of their support to ground troops and encouraged them to remain focused in their efforts to provide confidence and security to the citizens of Nigeria.
The Nigerian Air Force’s successful airstrikes demonstrate their commitment to tackling terrorism and protecting the nation. These operations showcase their exceptional capabilities and their ongoing dedication to maintaining peace and security in Nigeria.
