Plateau State Police Command Initiates Meeting with Farming Communities and Pastoralists to Tackle Insecurity

The Plateau State Police Command has taken a proactive step in addressing the persistent crisis between farmers and pastoralists by engaging religious and community leaders in a meeting. This meeting is one of many that have been organized by stakeholders in a bid to restore peace in the region, following the unfortunate loss of hundreds of lives.

On Saturday, the state Commissioner of Police, Okoro Julius, convened the gathering at the Police Officers’ Mess. The aim of the meeting was to foster a stronger relationship between farmers and herders, who have been at odds for years, and put an end to the wanton destruction of lives and properties.

The Commissioner urged all parties involved to lay down their arms and embrace reconciliation, emphasizing that peace, unity, and progress are crucial for the development of the state.

In his speech, the Chairman of Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN), Nura Abdullahi, lauded the Nigeria Police Force for organizing the stakeholders meeting. He expressed his optimism that such initiatives would contribute significantly to fostering peaceful coexistence between farmers and pastoralists. He stressed that security is pivotal for sustainable peace, and commended the participants for actively suggesting solutions to unite both parties.

Rev. Polycarp Lubo, the Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), commended the timely nature of the meeting considering the high level of insecurity plaguing the state. He applauded the governor for his swift response in restoring peace after the recent attacks and killings in the villages. Rev. Lubo emphasized the need for more meetings aimed at fostering forgiveness, genuine reconciliation, and peaceful cohabitation among the residents.
