The city of Lagos was struck by tragedy as a horrifying accident involving a commercial bus and a truck claimed the lives of three individuals. The incident occurred at Gbagada, near Charly Boy bus stop, according to a statement by the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) on Saturday.
LASEMA, who swiftly responded to a distress call received at 10:01 PM, activated the Lagos State Emergency Response Plans and arrived at the scene within 16 minutes.
Upon their arrival, the agency’s Lagos Response Team (LRT) observed that a white commercial bus had lost control and collided with a moving truck. The 18-passenger bus, registered as JJJ-844YA and carrying a full capacity load, was en route from Oshodi to Ajah.
The bus tragically rammed into the truck from behind, resulting in the instantaneous loss of three lives – two adult males and one adult female. Additionally, several others sustained various injuries.
LASEMA’s efficient paramedics promptly administered pre-hospital care to the seven injured individuals and swiftly transported three of them to Gbagada General Hospital for further treatment.
In preparation for the arrival of the State Environmental Health Monitoring Unit (SEHMU), LASEMA has securely bagged the deceased individuals for transportation to the morgue. Furthermore, a Light Tow Truck has been deployed to remove the affected vehicles from the busy roadway to prevent any secondary accidents.
The incident drew the collective presence of the LASEMA Response Team, LASEMA Pre-Hospital Care Team, Nigeria Police, and Lagos Fire and Rescue Services.
This tragic accident serves as a somber reminder of the importance of safe and responsible driving, with hopes that it will further encourage necessary measures to prevent such occurrences in the future.
