The National Union of Electricity Employees (NUEE) has taken a stand against the Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO) for its alleged failure to remit pension funds for the past 72 months. In response, workers have picketed the company in protest.
Leading the picketing exercise, Comrade Ado Riruwai, the Northwest Chairman of the union, expressed the workers’ dissatisfaction with the non-remittance of pension funds by KEDCO’s management. Riruwai further claimed that the management has also engaged in victimization tactics against workers, particularly targeting union leaders who have spoken out about this issue.
Riruwai condemned the management’s actions, equating them to imperialism and asserting that they violate the rights of the workers as stipulated in the Nigerian Constitution.
Additionally, the union accused KEDCO of neglecting its responsibility to provide adequate medical care for its employees.
