Security Operatives Seal PDP Secretariat Ahead of Protest in Ondo: Akeredolu’s Absence Draws Attention

The secretariat of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ondo State has been sealed by security operatives in anticipation of a scheduled protest against the prolonged absence of Governor Rotimi Akeredolu.

The Department of State Security (DSS) and the Nigeria Police Force took early action on Monday morning to prevent the planned protest.

Governor Akeredolu returned to Nigeria on September 7 after a three-month medical leave in Germany.

Since his return, the governor has been operating from his private residence in Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State.

Confirming the sealing of the secretariat, Kennedy Peretei, the state Publicity Secretary of the PDP, emphasized the party’s commitment to peace and development.

Peretei stated, “We cannot be accused of planning to create a crisis in the state. If the All Progressives Congress (APC) knows the whereabouts of Governor Akeredolu, they should ask him to come out or resign honorably. It is evident that the ruling party is afraid of their own shortcomings, having failed to meet the expectations of the citizens.”

In response to the protest, Alex Kalejaye, the Publicity Secretary of the APC, issued a statement on Sunday, alleging that the PDP was plotting to instigate a crisis in the state to tarnish the party’s reputation ahead of the 2025 gubernatorial election.
