PDP Alleges Arrest of Benue State Spokesperson by DSS

The Department of State Services (DSS) has reportedly arrested the Publicity Secretary of the Benue State Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Mr Bemgba Iortyom, in Makurdi.

According to sources, Iortyom was apprehended on Monday during a scheduled meeting with the state security agency.

Insiders familiar with the situation revealed that the arrest was likely prompted by a petition filed against him by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Confirming the arrest, the media consultant to the Benue PDP, Mr Cornelius Hwande, stated, “Upon our arrival at the DSS office at around 2:11 pm, two individuals claiming to be from the Director’s office approached us and took Bemgba Iortyom away.”

He added, “It is unusual for the DSS to invite someone without a valid reason, especially the Publicity Secretary of an opposition party like Bemgba Iortyom. He has been a vocal critic of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) administration in Benue State.”

Furthermore, Hwande raised suspicions about the involvement of Governor Hyacinth Alia, stating, “Considering the recent remarks made by the incumbent Governor, it is difficult not to link him to this sudden invitation and imminent detention of Mr Iortyom by the DSS.”
