President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has taken a significant step towards strengthening the fight against corruption in Nigeria by appointing a new management team for the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC). This move aligns with President Tinubu’s commitment to reform key institutions and intensify the nation’s battle against corruption under the Renewed Hope mandate.
The newly appointed ICPC Chairman and Chief Executive Officer is Dr Musa Adamu Aliyu, a highly accomplished individual who holds a doctorate degree in law and has served as the Attorney General of Jigawa State. Dr Aliyu’s tenure in Jigawa State was marked by the implementation of far-reaching reforms, demonstrating his dedication to upholding the rule of law.
Taking on the crucial role of Secretary to the ICPC is Clifford Okwudiri Oparaodu, a seasoned lawyer with over 30 years of experience. Oparaodu has served with distinction in the public service, including as a member of the Rivers State Judicial Service Commission and as the Chairman of the Caretaker Committee of Port Harcourt City Local Government Council. His wealth of experience will be invaluable in strengthening the operations of the ICPC.
In accordance with the provisions of Section 3(6) of the Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Act, 2000, the appointment of the ICPC Chairman requires confirmation by the Nigerian Senate. President Tinubu has nominated Dr Aliyu for this position, and the Senate will review his qualifications and suitability for the role.
However, the appointment of the Secretary to the ICPC does not require Senate confirmation. Therefore, as directed by President Tinubu, the appointment of Clifford Okwudiri Oparaodu as the Secretary of the commission takes immediate effect.
In a statement signed by Chief Ajuri Ngelale, Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, President Tinubu emphasized the importance of upholding integrity and impartiality in the discharge of duties. The President urged the new management team of the ICPC to remain above reproach and carry out their responsibilities without fear or favor.
With these appointments, President Tinubu has taken a crucial step in strengthening the ICPC and giving it the leadership required to tackle corruption head-on. The Nigerian people can now look forward to enhanced efforts in combating corrupt practices and restoring accountability in public service.
This decisive move by President Tinubu demonstrates his unwavering commitment to fighting corruption, which is essential for the progress and development of Nigeria. The appointment of capable and experienced individuals like Dr Musa Adamu Aliyu and Clifford Okwudiri Oparaodu reflects President Tinubu’s determination to have a highly competent and dedicated team in place to drive the country towards a future free from corruption.
