A faction of the Labour Party, LP, has issued a stern warning to their 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, stating that he will face suspension unless he clarifies allegations surrounding the use of his late brother’s academic credentials.

The Lamidi Apapa faction of the party has given Obi a deadline of 48 hours to address the discrepancies in his academic records.

Abayomi Arabambi, the spokesman for the faction, expressed his disappointment in Tanko Yinusa, the spokesperson for the Peter Obi/Datti Ahmed presidential campaign council, for dismissing the allegations of Obi impersonating his late brother as a farce.

In light of this, Arabambi posed several questions to Obi, demanding answers. He asked for the name of Obi’s supposed elder brother who studied computer science, the year of his brother’s demise, and the names mentioned on both the secondary school and University of Nigeria Nsukka certificates. Arabambi also inquired about Obi’s birth certificate, noting that the name on it differs from the name on his school and university certificates. Furthermore, he stressed the importance of clarifying the name difference on Obi’s NYSC certificate. Arabambi concluded by urging Obi to provide satisfactory responses to bring an end to the national embarrassment caused by the discrepancies in his academic records.

The spokesman for the Labour Party faction emphasized that Obi had not provided any evidence to refute the allegations of forgery, impersonation, and inconsistencies in his certificates.

Arabambi further highlighted Obi’s submission of only his WAEC certificate, despite failing to meet the minimum requirements in Mathematics and English, which are compulsory subjects for admission into any Nigerian university.

The Labour Party faction is also demanding an explanation for the varying names used by Obi in different schools and public documents, accusing him of engaging in fraudulent and secretive practices.

“We challenge Mr Peter Obi to provide answers to all the questions raised above to clear the air of uncertainty about his person. Failure to do this within the next 48 hours will result in his suspension from the Labour Party,” Arabambi declared.

It remains to be seen how Peter Obi will respond to these allegations and whether his clarifications can salvage his political standing within the Labour Party.
