Katsina State Government Stands Firm Against Criminals, Vows to Defend its People

The Katsina State Government has made it clear that it will not engage in negotiations with criminals or criminal groups. Instead, it is committed to taking all necessary measures to ensure the safety and security of its people.

In an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria, Dr Nasiru Muazu-Danmusa, the Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, reiterated the government’s determination to put an end to banditry and other security challenges facing the state.

Furthermore, the commissioner highlighted that steps are being taken to enable Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) to return to their respective communities. This includes the recent inauguration of the Community Security Watch Corps (KCSWC) by Governor Dikko Radda on October 10th. This initiative demonstrates the government’s unwavering commitment and strong resolve to restore lasting peace in the state.

Katsina state has unfortunately experienced a significant number of IDPs in the North-West, due to the prevailing insecurity. However, the government is actively working to reverse this negative narrative through the implementation of effective strategies.

The government has also prioritized the welfare of the Community Security Watch Corps, ensuring that their salaries are at par with the national minimum wage. In addition to this, the government is constructing offices for the corps, providing them with patrol vehicles, motorcycles, weapons, gadgets, and other necessary resources for their operations. These measures are in alignment with the provisions of the constitution.

Importantly, the members of the corps are from the affected communities themselves. They have been on the frontline in the fight against the terrorists and are intimately familiar with the local terrain. They have willingly pledged to protect their people, making their commitment even stronger.

Dr Nasiru Muazu-Danmusa expressed optimism about the success of the operation and emphasized the significance of fervent prayers from the people. He also urged the public to play an active role by providing credible intelligence information to the security agents, enabling them to effectively prevent and address crimes.

It is worth mentioning that the state government has trained and deployed 1,466 youths to their respective communities to collectively work with other security agents in the fight against banditry.

The Katsina State Government’s firm stance against criminals, coupled with its proactive measures, reflects its unwavering determination to safeguard the lives and livelihoods of its people. Through collaborative efforts and support from the public, the government aims to restore lasting peace and security in the state.
