The community of Obosi in Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State has made a resolute decision to combat the rising wave of crime within its vicinity. Notorious for drug and cult-related activities, this community has tragically witnessed numerous killings, with the recent gruesome murder of a former President General serving as a stark reminder of the urgent need for action.
On Wednesday, the Central Executive Council of the community’s leadership, known as the Obosi Development Union (ODU), took a bold step by embarking on a one-day awareness campaign. Pledging their unwavering commitment to securing their land and promoting safety for all residents, they took to the streets, marching in full force.
During the campaign, community leaders issued a stern warning to criminal elements, emphasizing the imperative to mend their ways or face eviction for the sake of their own well-being. Addressing the gathering, the President General, Barr Chimezie Obi, highlighted the notion that the campaign was a direct response to the numerous crimes and heinous acts that have tarnished the town’s reputation.
“While it is true that some of the culprits are claiming to be from Obosi, we are sending a final warning to those responsible: either change your ways or leave the community,” said Chimezie.
Recognizing the importance of a collaborative effort, Chimezie also expressed the need for support from both government agencies and the community at large. He stressed the necessity of increased police presence, manpower, recruitment of vigilante operatives, and the provision of vehicles and other security equipment.
The determined stance taken by the Obosi community serves as a powerful message to criminals operating within their borders. By uniting against insecurity, they are taking charge of their own destiny and reclaiming their rightful place as a safe and thriving community within Anambra State.
