Court Restrains Do2dtun from Defaming D’banj

In a recent development, the Chief District Court of the Federal Capital Territory in Abuja has issued a restraining order against popular on-air personality, Kayode Oladotun, widely known as Do2dtun. The court has prohibited Do2dtun from making defamatory statements about renowned singer Oladapo Oyebanjo, also known as D’banj, on social media or any other platform.

The order, granted by His Honour Emmanuel Iyanna on October 18, 2023, was a result of an application filed by D’banj through his lawyer, Toheeb Lawal of the prestigious Abuja-based law firm Law Corridor. The application sought to restrain Do2dtun from making malicious and defamatory posts about D’banj on social media.

In the ruling, Judge Iyanna granted an order that restrains Do2dtun and anyone affiliated with him from making any further malicious, intimidating, or defamatory posts directed at D’banj on platforms such as Twitter, Instagram, and other news media outlets. This order will remain in effect until the substantive case has been heard and determined.

Furthermore, the court has directed the Deputy Inspector of Police at the Force Intelligence Bureau to investigate a criminal complaint lodged by D’banj against Do2dtun within a period of two weeks. The report of the investigation will then be submitted to the court.

Do2dtun has embarked on a social media campaign against D’banj in recent weeks. It is worth noting that the two were once connected through marriage, as Do2dtun was married to D’banj’s sister, Taiwo, in 2013. The couple had two daughters during their marriage.

However, in November 2021, Taiwo initiated divorce proceedings against Do2dtun before Justice A.I. Akobi of Court 23 in the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory. In the divorce proceedings, Taiwo cited allegations of incessant emotional abuse, forced abortion, and domestic violence inflicted upon her by Do2dtun. She claimed that these incidents had severely impacted her health and overall well-being.

Recently, Do2dtun has made claims that he is being denied access to his daughters. However, Taiwo has refuted these claims, stating that Do2dtun does have access to their children. She has recounted the ordeal she endured during their marriage, including instances of domestic violence and emotional abuse. She went on to describe how Do2dtun forcibly accompanied her to a hospital to undergo an abortion when she was five months pregnant.

This ruling serves as a significant step in protecting the reputation and well-being of public figures like D’banj. It demonstrates that actions or statements made with the intention to defame will not be tolerated by the court. The outcome of the investigation by the Deputy Inspector of Police will shed further light on the matter.

As this legal battle unfolds, it is essential to place importance on respect, empathy, and accountability in relationships, both personal and within the public eye. Instances of domestic violence and abuse must be addressed seriously and sensitively, with the aim of fostering a society that prioritizes the well-being and safety of all individuals.
