The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has accused Governor Ademola Adeleke of deceiving the people and running the state with dishonesty. The party cautioned Governor Adeleke against seeking unwarranted benefits from unsuspecting residents.
In a statement signed by Tajudeen Lawal, the Chairman of Osun APC, the party alleges that Governor Adeleke invited Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State to commission a road in Ilesa. However, the road in question was fully funded by a private individual, Rasheed Sarumi, an Ijesa man. The commissioning was falsely portrayed as a result of Adeleke’s Tax Credit Initiative.
Lawal stated, “The recent events in Ilesa, where the governor attempted to deceive the people of Osun State regarding projects fully funded by Mr. Rasheed Sarumi of Ilesa, serve as a stark reminder of how low governance has sunk under the current administration.”
He further criticized Governor Adeleke’s spokesperson for spreading falsehood, saying, “It is disheartening that Governor Adeleke’s spokesperson would lie that some monumental projects commissioned by Governor Godwin Obaseki were a product of Adeleke’s Tax Credit Initiative. This is an irresponsible falsehood that a responsible government should never have considered.”
Lawal emphasized that the Tax Credit Initiative for the Ilesa projects was actually initiated and implemented during the tenure of ex-Governor Adegboyega Oyetola. He presented evidence, including pictures of the former Works Commissioner, Engr Remi Omowaiye, at the construction site, to debunk Adeleke’s claim.
Responding to these allegations, Governor Adeleke’s spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, highlighted that the state government has constructed more than 55 kilometers of roads and is actively encouraging private individuals to contribute to bridging the state’s infrastructure deficit.
Rasheed clarified, “Governor Adeleke was invited to commission the road by the businessman, and at no point did the state government claim responsibility for the road construction.”
He further defended the governor’s actions and emphasized that the administration is focused on developing the state’s infrastructure. He stated, “Is it a crime for the governor to honor a distinguished Osun citizen who is making tremendous contributions to the society? The current government is working tirelessly to bridge the infrastructure deficit and will not be distracted by a party that failed during its previous tenure in office.”
