The Minister of Interior, Dr Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, has declared that the time for empty promises and talkshots is over. In his keynote address at a breakfast meeting organized by Business Day in Abuja, he stressed the need for appointees to back their words with action.
“I have no excuse whatsoever not to secure the nation’s borders,” Tunji-Ojo asserted. He emphasized that it is the responsibility of President Bola Tinubu and his administration to find solutions to the challenges faced by the country.
Highlighting the importance of action, the Minister stated, “We must work the talk in line with the present administration’s slogan of Renewed Hope.”
Tunji-Ojo further explained that a nation that fails to secure its borders will always place undue pressure on its military, police, and other security personnel. He emphasized that effectively controlling the borders can reduce insecurity by more than 70 percent.
The Minister also expressed his view that the Ministry of Interior plays a vital role in any nation. While acknowledging the significance of issuing passports, he stated that he does not wish to be remembered solely as the Minister who solved passport problems. “There are bigger issues that require our attention and solutions,” he affirmed.
Tunji-Ojo underscored the vulnerability of a country that cannot critically analyze and determine who enters and exits its borders. Such a nation is prone to insecurity, he argued.
