In a disheartening revelation, the Kaduna State Fire Service has reported a total of 33 deaths resulting from 252 fire incidents that occurred from January to September this year. This information was disclosed by the Director of the State Fire Service, Paul Aboi, in an exclusive interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Friday in Kaduna.
Despite the tragic loss of lives, the fire service was able to play a vital role in saving the lives of 15 individuals who were trapped in the flames. Unfortunately, four others sustained injuries during the same period. The valiant efforts of the fire service also led to the preservation of property worth approximately N3.4 billion, though assets worth N2.2 billion were tragically destroyed.
Collaborating with the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), the fire service documented 21 auto-fire accidents, a vast majority of which resulted in fatalities.
In an effort to curtail the devastating impact of fire outbreaks, the director stressed the importance of educating residents on fire safety measures. By raising awareness and promoting precautionary measures, the fire service aims to empower individuals and communities to prevent and mitigate the risks associated with fires.
Director Aboi urged residents to remain vigilant, especially during the dry season when incidents of fire outbreaks tend to escalate. He emphasized the need for individuals to exercise caution and adhere to simple safety procedures to minimize the occurrence and spread of fires throughout the state.
The task at hand is monumental, but with the combined efforts of both the fire service and the public, it is possible to reduce the devastating toll of fire incidents and ensure the safety and well-being of the people of Kaduna.
