N35,000 Wage Award for Nigerian Workers to be Funded from IGR — NSIWC

The National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission (NSIWC) has announced that the implementation of the N35,000.00 per month wage award for Federal Government Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) will be funded from the treasury. Ekpo Nta, the Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of NSIWC, released a circular in Abuja stating that this decision applies only to offices that receive funding from the treasury. Non-treasury funded Federal Government agencies, on the other hand, are required to implement the wage award using their Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) or statutory allocations.

“I refer to the Memorandum of Understanding reached between the Federal Government of Nigeria and the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC) on October 2nd,” stated Mr Nta. “This wage award of N35,000 per month for all Federal Government workers, effective from September 1st, has been approved by President Bola Tinubu. It will remain in place until a new national minimum wage is signed into law.”

The implementation of this wage award is a result of the dispute that arose from the withdrawal of subsidy on the price of premium motor spirit (PMS). It is a crucial step towards improving the welfare of Nigerian workers and ensuring that their salaries are commensurate with the rising cost of living.

For any inquiries regarding the circular, individuals are encouraged to contact the commission. The NSIWC remains committed to the fair and equitable remuneration of Nigerian workers, as well as the overall development of the nation.

By prioritizing the funding of this wage award from the treasury and IGR, the government demonstrates its dedication to improving the economic well-being of its workforce. This decision will not only enhance the livelihoods of Nigerian workers but also contribute to a stronger economy and a more prosperous nation.
