Abia Commissioner Calls on Residents to Disregard Rumours of Missing Genitals

The Commissioner for Information and Culture in Abia State, Okey Kanu, has assured residents that the government is committed to collaborating with security agencies to ensure the safety and protection of lives and property. Kanu made this statement during a courtesy visit from the Commissioner of Police, Kenechukwu Onwuemelie, and his team at his office in Umuahia.

During the meeting, Commissioner Kanu reiterated his ministry’s dedication to providing the police with necessary support and valuable information. He urged Abia residents to dismiss the growing allegations concerning stolen or missing genitals, urging them instead to report any suspected cases to the nearest police station for thorough investigations, rather than resorting to vigilantism.

Commissioner Onwuemelie, emphasizing the importance of accurate information in governance, underscored the need for a partnership between the police and the Abia State Ministry of Information in safeguarding the interests of the people. He expressed concern over the prevalence of fake news in the country, including reports of missing genitals, and condemned the barbaric act of individuals taking the law into their own hands, often resulting in acts of terror and victimization.

Hyacinth Okoli, the acting Director-General of the Broadcasting Corporation of Abia State, also expressed concern over the spread of fake news in society. He stressed the significance of collaboration between government information organizations and security agencies in promoting effective security measures.

In conclusion, Commissioner Kanu’s call for residents to disregard rumours of missing genitals reflects the government’s determination to prioritize the safety and well-being of the people. By encouraging citizens to report any concerns to the appropriate authorities, Abia State aims to maintain law and order while ensuring accurate information is disseminated across the state.
