Tragic Accident claims 7 Lives on Osogbo-Gbongan Highway

The tranquil Osun State was plunged into mourning as a devastating accident on the Osogbo-Gbongan highway claimed the lives of seven individuals on Friday night. The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Osun Command, revealed that the accident involved a private Sharon Nissan vehicle with the registration number WWD574 AE. Preliminary investigations indicate that the driver lost control of the vehicle due to excessive speed.

In a statement released by the command’s spokesperson, Mrs Agnes Ogungbemi, the Sector Commander, Henry Benamaisia, shared the heartbreaking news. The accident, which occurred at Ogidi village near the Sasa bridge, involved a total of 10 individuals. Tragically, seven lives were lost, including three females, one male, and three children. Three other individuals sustained injuries of varying degrees.

The indigenes of Osun among the deceased were respectfully taken to Odeomu by their grieving relatives. The remaining four victims were transported to LAUTECH Teaching Hospital in Osogbo by the diligent rescue team from the FRSC.

The injured victims were swiftly transferred to an undisclosed hospital for further medical attention. This commendable response was made possible through the joint efforts of the FRSC, as well as other security sister agencies who collaborated in the rescue operation.

Belongings recovered from the scene of the accident have been dutifully handed over to the police. The Sector Commander, Mr Benamaisia, seized the opportunity to admonish motorists against disobedience of traffic rules and regulations. He sternly warned that any violators would face the full force of the law.

During these distressing times, our thoughts and prayers are with the families and loved ones of those who lost their lives in this tragic accident. May they find solace and strength in the midst of their profound grief. Let us all strive towards creating safer roads and nurturing a culture of responsible driving in our beloved nation.
