Prominent Yoruba nation agitator, Sunday Igboho, has given suspected herders who are responsible for the killings of farmers in the Southwest a seven-day ultimatum to vacate the region. The ultimatum comes as a response to the escalating tensions between farmers and herders in the area.
In a statement released by Igboho, he emphasized the importance of peaceful coexistence in Nigeria, irrespective of tribe, religion, or political differences. However, he stressed that the safety of the people in the South West cannot be compromised, and decisive action must be taken.
Igboho stated, “This warning is of utmost significance. While we do not intend to take the law into our own hands, it is imperative for the herders to leave our communities within the stipulated time frame.”
Notwithstanding, Igboho expressed his confidence in the federal government, under the leadership of President Bola Tinubu, to ensure the safety of lives and properties, particularly those of farmers in Nigeria. He further urged the government to prioritize this matter and take necessary action.
The agitator also called upon the Governors of Oyo and Ogun States to deploy additional security personnel and establish adequate security measures at flashpoints where clashes between herders and farmers have become prevalent. The reinforcement of security personnel is crucial for maintaining peace and resolution in these areas.
In conclusion, Igboho made an appeal for enhanced security presence in agrarian settlements across the country, emphasizing that Nigerian farmers require a secure environment to engage in productive farming activities. The agitator urged an immediate end to the killings for the benefit of all, as the current situation poses a threat to food security and escalates the prices of essential commodities.
