Governor Buni Laments Killing of Customs Officer in Yobe by Suspected Boko Haram Insurgents

Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe state has expressed deep concern over the killing of Assistant Superintendent of Customs (ASC) II Ahmed Usman by suspected Boko Haram insurgents in Geidam local government area. The incident is seen as a tragic and unfortunate event.

In a statement issued by Alhaji Mamman Mohammed, the Director-General of Press and Media Affairs for the Governor, the governor extended his condolences to the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS). He stated, “It is sad that we are confronted with such an unfortunate incident at a time when we are experiencing relative peace across the state.”

The governor acknowledged the efforts of the security operatives in maintaining the security of lives and property in the state, noting that this attack serves as a wake-up call for vigilance. He further emphasized the need to not become complacent due to the prevailing peace in the state.

Governor Buni conveyed the sympathy and condolences of the government and people of Yobe state to the NCS, the Controller General, and the family of the slain officer. He assured the people of Yobe that the state government remains committed to partnering with security agencies to further enhance peace and security.

Offering prayers for the deceased officer, Governor Buni prayed for his soul to rest in peace and for his family to find the strength to bear the irreparable loss.

The governor also called on the people of the state to always provide timely and credible information to the government and security agencies concerning suspicious individuals and activities within their communities.

The spokesperson of the Nigeria Customs Service, Abdullahi Maiwada, confirmed the death of ASC II Ahmed Usman. In a statement, he explained that the officer paid the ultimate price while defending the NCS office in Geidam against the insurgent attack on Saturday.

In conclusion, it is important for the citizens to remain vigilant and collaborate with the government and security agencies to ensure the sustained peace and security of Yobe state.
