FG Unveils Ambitious Plans for Affordable Homes Catering to 80% of Low-Income Earners

The Federal Government is set to embark on an ambitious project aimed at providing cost-effective housing for the majority of low and medium-income earners in Nigeria. The Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Ahmed Dangiwa, recently announced plans to develop affordable housing designs and promote the construction of quality homes that meet the needs of the country’s population.

During a meeting with the Nigerian Institute of Quantity Surveyors, the minister highlighted the importance of prioritizing affordable housing. He emphasized the need to address the housing needs of 80% of Nigerians who fall within the low to medium-income category.

“These hardworking citizens equally deserve to live in decent, well-planned homes and neighborhoods that reflect the principles of inclusivity and fairness. Achieving this requires affordable housing design concepts based on the most efficient bills of quantities,” said the ministry’s Deputy Director for Information, Badamasi Haiba.

To achieve this ambitious goal, the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development has established an affordable housing design committee. This committee has been tasked with developing more efficient design options that align with the income profiles of Nigerians in the targeted bracket.

“Our professionals in the ministry have done a great job, and we would like to have your comments before we unveil them to the public. Our goal is to come up with the most efficient, workable, and sustainable affordable designs that will help us deliver on our mandate,” added the minister.
