Troops belonging to Operation Safe Haven (OPSH), a Special Military Task Force assigned to maintain peace in Plateau, Bauchi, and Kaduna States, have successfully neutralised four suspected bandits. This significant development was announced by Capt. James Oya, the Media Officer for the operation, in a statement released on Monday in Jos.
During the period between October 16th and October 22nd, the troops carried out their mission assiduously and apprehended a total of 120 individuals involved in diverse criminal activities within their operational areas. These criminals were involved in crimes such as kidnapping, armed robbery, cattle rustling, drug peddling, and others.
Capt. Oya revealed that while some suspects were detained for illegal possession of arms and ammunition, others were apprehended for the crime of kidnapping. He also noted that as part of their operation, the troops successfully rescued four kidnapped victims, bringing them closer to justice and freedom.
Furthermore, he outlined the achievements of the OPSH during this period, stating, ”Within the period under review, we neutralised four suspected bandits, arrested 73 suspects carrying arms and ammunition, and apprehended 37 others for their involvement in the crime of kidnapping. We also rescued four kidnapped victims, arrested two individuals suspected of cattle rustling, and apprehended four individuals involved in drug peddling. In addition, we successfully prevented five attacks on vulnerable communities and promptly responded to 28 distress calls.” These accomplishments highlight the dedication and effectiveness of the OPSH in maintaining peace and security in the region.
It is important to note that during the operations, the troops were able to recover sophisticated weapons from some of the suspects, thus preventing potential harm and danger to innocent lives.
Capt. Oya also disclosed that suspects arrested for car and motorcycle theft have been handed over to the police for further investigation and prosecution, ensuring that justice will be served for the victims.
This great success by the OPSH is not only a testament to their commitment and professionalism but also a reassurance to the citizens of Plateau, Bauchi, and Kaduna States that the government is dedicated to ensuring their safety and security.
