Over 288,000 Applications Received in One Week for Police Recruitment, Says PSC Chairman Arase

In a show of commendable intent, Nigerian youths have demonstrated their eagerness to pursue a career with the Nigeria Police Force, with over 288,000 applications received by the Police Service Commission (PSC) within a one-week window. Chairman of the PSC, Solomon Arase, expressed his admiration for the impressive response from the youth.

Setting the tone for transparency and meritocracy, Arase assured aspiring applicants that the ongoing recruitment exercise would be conducted with utmost fairness.

According to a statement released by Ikechukwu Ani, Head of Press and Public Relations, the online recruitment portal has received a substantial number of applications, surpassing expectations. As of Monday, October 23, 2023, the portal had recorded a staggering 288,266 applications.

Out of these applications, a total of 217,105 candidates met the basic requirements for further consideration in subsequent stages of the recruitment process. Among the applications, 217,300 were submitted for general duty posts, while 70,676 were for specialist posts. Unfortunately, 69,426 applications were rejected due to failure in meeting eligibility criteria, with the majority being disqualified for exceeding the maximum age requirement.

The statement disclosed that 51,213 general duty applications and 18,213 specialist applications were rejected, emphasizing the importance of adhering to the specified guidelines.

The recruitment portal was officially opened on Sunday, October 15, 2023, and will remain accessible until November 26, 2023. This timeline is in accordance with the Federal Character Commission’s requirement of allowing eligible candidates a six-week period to apply for government agency vacancies.

For applicants to be considered, certain criteria must be met. These include being of Nigerian origin and birth, possessing the National Identification Number (NIN), having a minimum of 5 credits in no more than two sittings in WAEC/NECO or a similar equivalent, with credit passes in English and Mathematics. Additionally, candidates must be between 18 and 25 years old, possess a valid email address and phone number, and must note that SSCE statements of results or certificates relating to examinations taken prior to 2015 will not be accepted.

Importantly, the application process is free of charge and does not require any financial contributions.
