Nigeria’s President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has demonstrated his unwavering commitment to the welfare of the Nigerian Armed Forces by launching the 2023 Armed Forces Remembrance emblem. At a poignant ceremony held at the Council Chamber of the Presidential Villa in Abuja, President Tinubu made a generous donation of N18 billion to support the families of fallen heroes.

In his address, President Tinubu expressed his profound gratitude for the bravery and sacrifices made by the gallant troops in securing the nation. He emphasized the significance of this contribution as an acknowledgment of their invaluable service and as a testament to his administration’s unwavering dedication to their well-being.

“We owe a debt of gratitude to our gallant troops, who have risen to the challenge of securing this great nation. In appreciation of their sacrifices, I have approved N18 billion for the payment of the Group Life Assurance benefits and other entitlements to the families of service members who lost their lives in the line of duty,” President Tinubu affirmed.

Before the commencement of the remembrance ceremony for the fallen heroes, President Tinubu was honored with the redesigned emblem, solidifying his role as the Grand Patron of the Nigerian Legion. The event was attended by senior military officers, ministers, members of the diplomatic corps, and other esteemed government officials.

The generosity extended beyond President Tinubu’s exemplary commitment, as other dignitaries present also pledged significant amounts towards this noble cause. The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, announced a pledge of N60 million on behalf of the National Assembly. The Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, on behalf of the Nigerian Armed Forces, donated N50 million. Additionally, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, pledged a sum of N40 million on behalf of the members of the Federal Executive Council. These contributions highlight the collective recognition and appreciation for the sacrifices made by the fallen heroes and their families.

The Armed Forces Remembrance Day celebration, which commenced on October 25th, will culminate on January 15, 2024, with the solemn tradition of wreath laying by the military and the heads of the three arms of government – the Executive, Legislature, and Judiciary.

The assurance policy’s implementation will provide much-needed support and security to the families of the fallen heroes, assuring them that their sacrifice will never be forgotten. This landmark initiative by President Tinubu not only pays homage to the unyielding bravery of the Nigerian Armed Forces but also exemplifies his steadfast commitment to their welfare.
