In a significant development, the Adamawa State Executive Council has given its seal of approval to a budgetary proposal of N225 billion for the upcoming fiscal year, 2024.
The decision was made during the council’s weekly meeting held on Wednesday, reflecting the commitment of the state government towards effective financial planning and governance.
The proposed budget allocates N135 billion for recurrent expenditure, affirming the state’s commitment to meeting ongoing obligations and sustaining existing programs. Additionally, N90 billion has been earmarked for capital expenditure, highlighting the government’s emphasis on fostering development and improving infrastructure.
The allocation of 60 per cent for recurrent expenditure and 40 per cent for capital expenditure demonstrates a prudent balance, ensuring the continuation of essential services while also driving progress and innovation.
As the next step in the budgetary process, Governor Ahmadu Fintiri will present the proposal to the Adamawa State House of Assembly. This presentation will further involve stakeholders in the decision-making process, ensuring transparency and accountability in financial matters.
In another commendable move, the council approved an expenditure of N1.7 billion to procure furniture for junior and senior secondary schools across the state. This decision reflects the government’s unwavering commitment to providing conducive learning environments that foster educational growth and development.
Mrs Neido G. Kofulto, the Commissioner of Information and Strategy, shared these details with journalists after the council meeting, held in the Council Chambers of the Government House, Yola.
Dr Umar Garba Pella, the Commissioner of Education, emphasized the government’s prioritization of education and its determination to improve learning conditions for students. He stated, “Education occupies a central space in the Fintiri administration, and we will continue to ensure the adequate provision of furniture in schools.”
