Troika Hails Addis Ababa Meeting of Sudanese Civilians as Crucial Step Towards Pro-Democracy Front

The Troika, consisting of Norway, the United Kingdom, and the United States, has warmly welcomed the recent meeting held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. This gathering brought together a diverse group of Sudanese civilian actors and stakeholders, marking a significant milestone in the quest for an inclusive and representative pro-democracy civilian front.

The Troika commends the Sudanese people for their unwavering commitment to a democratic future. Despite the ongoing conflict, individuals representing various Sudanese civilian groups – both from within and outside Sudan – united for this pivotal initial meeting. The participants included representatives from historically marginalized groups and regions, Resistance Committees, trade unions, professional associations, civil society groups, political parties, new initiatives, as well as independent national figures. This remarkable display of unity and solidarity lays the groundwork for a larger gathering in the future, aimed at achieving even greater diversity and representation from all corners of Sudan.

Throughout Sudan and across the region, Sudanese civilians continue to come together to deliberate on their political future. The Troika encourages them to seek common ground and forge a robust pro-democracy civilian front. This front will be instrumental in addressing transitional and governance issues, fostering a national consensus, urging an end to the violence between warring parties, and facilitating much-needed humanitarian assistance. Establishing a transitional civilian government post-conflict is paramount to resuming Sudan’s journey towards democracy. This endeavor requires the active participation of Sudanese individuals from all walks of life and from every part of the country.

The Troika strongly condemns the persistent violence and tragic loss of lives unfolding in Sudan. The country remains in need of continued international support and attention. The Troika nations are proud to be among the largest donors providing assistance to the Sudanese people. Our focus remains on ensuring that all Sudanese communities have meaningful opportunities to contribute to the building of Sudan’s democratic future. Additionally, we are committed to providing life-saving humanitarian aid to displaced persons and other vulnerable communities.

In conclusion, the Troika reaffirms its support for the Sudanese people in their pursuit of democracy and stability. By working together, Sudan can overcome its challenges and forge a prosperous future for all its citizens.
