Nasarawa Assembly Resolves Concerns Over Unpaid Allowances for Local Government Deputy Chairmen

The Speaker of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly, Ibrahim Balarabe, has expressed deep concern regarding the non-payment of impress and furniture allowances to deputy chairmen serving in the 13 local government councils across the state. During a meeting with the Forum of Deputy Chairmen in his office in Lafia, Balarabe assured the affected individuals that their unpaid allowances would be promptly resolved to ensure smooth execution of their duties and foster effective service delivery, peace, and unity within the local government areas.

Realizing the vital importance of resolving the issue without delay, the Speaker emphasized the well-being of the deputy chairmen, their families, and the communities they serve. “I empathize with your situation and will not take it lightly. The payment of your allowances is a constitutional entitlement and it is imperative that we address your concerns swiftly,” he stated. Balarabe further added that he will invite both the chairmen and the deputy chairmen to a round table discussion to reach a lasting solution.

Furthermore, the Speaker urged the deputy chairmen to extend their unwavering support to Governor Abdullahi Sule’s administration, as collaborative efforts play a crucial role in advancing the progress of Nasarawa State.

Prior to the meeting, Lawal Karshi, the Chairman of the Forum and Deputy Chairman of Karu Local Government Council, appealed to the Speaker to intervene not only in securing the payment of the impress and furniture allowances, but also in increasing their monthly impress in light of the prevailing economic challenges. “Sir, we humbly request your intervention in increasing our monthly impress to N200,000, taking into account the current economic hardships. We also appeal for consistent payment of our monthly impress and furniture allowances,” Karshi expressed.

The Nasarawa State House of Assembly’s commitment to promptly addressing the concerns of the deputy chairmen highlights the legislature’s dedication to ensuring the welfare of local government officials and ultimately fostering development within the state.
