Nine Arab countries have united in their call for an urgent and sustainable cease-fire in the Gaza Strip, urging the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) to take action. In a joint press statement, the Foreign Ministers of Egypt, Jordan, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Qatar, Kuwait, and Morocco condemned the targeting of civilians and all forms of violence, as well as any violations of international law, including international humanitarian law and human rights law by any party involved.
The ministers also expressed their condemnation and rejection of any forced displacement of individuals or collective punishment policies. They emphasized the importance of the immediate release of hostages and civilian detainees, highlighting the crucial role of the International Committee of the Red Cross in this regard.
Furthermore, the Arab foreign ministers urged the UNSC to ensure smooth and uninterrupted access for humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip, aligning with relevant humanitarian principles. They deepened their concern over the potential expansion of the current confrontations and conflict into other regions in the Middle East, calling on all parties involved to exercise utmost restraint.
The ministers also warned against the escalations of violence in the West Bank, emphasizing the international community’s responsibility to support and strengthen the Palestinian National Authority. Additionally, they emphasized the importance of financial support for the Palestinian people. The Arab diplomats highlighted international efforts to implement the two-state solution based on relevant United Nations resolutions.
As the Israel-Hamas conflict enters its 20th day, official figures from both sides report a devastating toll. Approximately 7,028 Palestinians in Gaza and at least 1,400 people in Israel have lost their lives. The situation remains dire and requires immediate attention from the international community.
