Nigeria to Host Global Lottery and Gaming Conference

Nigeria is preparing to welcome industry heavyweights from the United States of America, United Kingdom, South Africa, Botswana, Ghana, and other countries across the globe as the National Lottery Regulatory Commission (NLRC) finalizes plans for the first-ever international Gaming Conference in Nigeria.

The highly anticipated two-day conference is scheduled to take place on October 31st and November 1st in Lagos, at the prestigious Eko Hotels and Suites on Victoria Island.

During a briefing with journalists at his office in Abuja, Mr. Lanre Gbajabiamila, the Director General of the NLRC, shared updates on the preparations for this global event and emphasized that the commission has left no stone unturned in ensuring the success of the conference.

According to Gbajabiamila, the decision to elevate the gaming conference to an international platform aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda. The agenda underscores the need for enhanced effectiveness across all sectors of the government to promote better governance, allocate improved resources, and deliver a better standard of living for all Nigerians.

The NLRC boss adamantly proclaimed, “the commission is wholeheartedly committed to this agenda,” affirming his unwavering determination to transform the lottery sector into a significant revenue generator for the country.

Under the leadership of Lanre Gbajabiamila, the NLRC has experienced remarkable growth in the Nigerian lottery industry, fulfilling its regulatory mandate and contributing substantial funds to the Federal Government’s coffers. In fact, the commission recently surpassed the one billion Naira mark in internally generated revenue (IGR), showcasing Gbajabiamila’s pragmatic approach to leadership.

The esteemed conference will be graced by the presence of the Minister of Special Duties and Intergovernmental Affairs, Hon. Zephaniah Jisalo, as the Special Guest of Honour. Additionally, Mr. Sam Awulu, the Director General of the National Lottery Authority in Ghana, will deliver the keynote address. The conference aims to draw participation from significant stakeholders, operators, and players in the Nigerian gaming industry.

Notable figures, including Senator Yemi Adaramodu (Chairman, Senate Committee on Youth and Sports); Honourable Ahmed Aliyu Abdulahi (Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Intergovernmental Affairs); and Dr. Bello Maigari (Executive Secretary of the National Lottery Trust Fund), will present goodwill messages during the conference.

The event will feature presentations from distinguished scholars, including Professor Rachel Volberg from the University of Massachusetts Amherst in the United States.

To conclude this international conference, a glamorous Gala Night will be held, where outstanding operators and players in the lottery industry will be honored with awards in various categories.
