The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Water Board has called on its staff to intensify their efforts in improving service quality and increasing the agency’s revenue. The Acting General Manager, Mr. Daniel Salka, emphasized this during the presentation of computer hardware and software to various units within the Board. The purpose of this initiative, which is part of the board’s collaboration with the Japanese International Cooperation Agency (JICA) Business Advisory Project, is to minimize non-revenue water, enhance service delivery, and boost revenue generation.
Although the Water Board currently generates approximately 300 million naira per month, Mr. Salka acknowledged that this figure only represents 52% of the board’s annual revenue target. While commending the staff for their achievements, he encouraged them to strive for even better performance by demonstrating dedication, professionalism, and efficiency in delivering services. He urged the recipients of the first batch of computers to make judicious use of the equipment and assured them that all other units within the board would also receive computers in due course.
In response, the Area Manager of Jabi, Yusuf Yelwa, expressed gratitude to the Acting General Manager for his motivation and pledged that they would utilize the computers for their intended purpose.
The statement further highlighted that JICA is collaborating with the FCT Water Board to fulfill the objectives outlined in the FCT Water Board Act 2017. This partnership involves capacity building, efforts to reduce non-revenue water, development of a legal framework, establishment of a customer service charter, and the implementation of the SmartBills Cloud billing system. These initiatives aim to streamline operations and enhance the ease of doing business with the board.
The FCT Water Board’s commitment to improving service delivery and increasing revenue is evident through the implementation of various projects and partnerships. By harnessing the potential of technology and fostering a culture of excellence among its staff, the board is taking proactive steps towards transforming the water sector and ensuring a sustainable future for water supply in the Federal Capital Territory.
