Accord Party Appeals Judgment of Governorship Tribunal in Rivers

The Accord Party in Rivers State has filed an appeal against the judgment of the Governorship Election Petition Tribunal in Abuja. This tribunal upheld the victory of Governor Siminialayi Fubara of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) as declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The three-man panel of the election tribunal dismissed the petition of the Accord Party’s governorship candidate, Dumo Lulu-Briggs, stating that it lacked merit and failed to provide sufficient evidence of irregularities during the election.

However, Lulu-Briggs and his legal team have raised an additional 27 grounds of appeal and have submitted five reliefs for consideration.

The Accord Party and its governorship candidate are seeking an order from the appeal court to set aside the part of the tribunal’s judgment. They also want the court to nullify the election held on the 18th and 19th of March, 2023, and direct INEC to conduct a supplementary election for the governorship position in Rivers State.
