I knew Alaba Lawson was down – Obasanjo mourns

Former Nigerian President, Olusegun Obasanjo, has said he was aware that Iyalode of Yorubaland, Alaba Lawson, was down, but he did not know the reason behind it.

In a release by his media aide, Kehinde Akinyemi, on Saturday, Obasanjo said the late educationist contributed immensely to the development of Nigeria in general.

“Iyalode Lawson lived a worthwhile life, and she did well in life. I knew she had been down, but I don’t really know the cause,” he said.

He said Lawson was a fantastic human being and a no-nonsense person, adding that she was hardworking and had a very generous personality.

The former president recalled that he honoured Lawson with a Member of the Order of the Federal Republic (MFR) national award for her contributions to the economic growth of the country and community development.

“I will miss her sorely,” Obasanjo stated.
